Functional Anatomy Review
This new workshop will review anatomical terms and the muscular- skeletal system with emphasis on the major muscle groups and their actions at the different joints. Students will be analyzing various types of resistance exercises with reference to muscle action. This workshop will benefit students enrolling in a course, preparing for an exam or just needing a refresher.

Biomechanics of Resistance and Pilates Exercises - This lecture teaches the student about leavers in the human body and relates them to everyday movement. The student will learn about the biomechanical factors that influence strength and to analyze exercises by identifying the participating joints, agonists muscles and resistance types.

NEW! Unilateral Challenge Workout
Unilateral control of movement is just as important as bilateral from walking to reaching to writing. Day-to-day functional movements are unilateral, using one side of the body at a time. In order to perform a proper unilateral action one needs to strengthen and balance each side of the body independently of the opposite side. Working unilaterally challenges the neuromuscular system while maintaining equilibrium. This insures that the proper muscles are recruited and adjusted on each side of the body for support and balance. Following, the unilateral workout will be implemented into a bilateral workout for synchronization.

This innovative workshop will help you take Moms-to-be from the traditional Matwork variations to modifications on the Reformer. Drawing on the latest medical information and ACOG guidelines, anatomical and physiological changes, risk factors and movement considerations will be discussed with an eye to providing a safe and effective workout. Appropriate STOTT PILATES® exercise adaptations will be explored using the Reformer in innovative and beneficial ways. Workouts will be concentrated on second trimester concerns, including the client’s pre-pregnancy fitness level, health concerns and fitness goals, although considerations for those in first and third trimesters will also be addressed.

This lecture/demo will explore the benefits of working on the STOTT PILATES® Reformer for the older adult. Despite decrements associated with aging, the ability to adapt to endurance and strength training is well documented. Modifications of exercises and considerations for limited mobility and strength issues will be discussed with a view to enhance core stability, increase lean muscle mass, increase range of motion and improve body awareness. Tips for cueing and correcting to help ensure safety and effectiveness are covered.

Many more women will survive breast cancer today than ever before. These women will
be encouraged to seek out fitness programs to assist in their recovery and give them the strength and endurance needed to resume an active lifestyle. This workshop discusses
various types of treatments including surgeries and reconstruction and the exercise
requirements for each. Programs include Matwork based exercises focusing on ROM
for the entire shoulder girdle, establishing mobility, restoring posture, ensuring proper biomechanics and developing core and peripheral strength to address muscular imbalances created from the surgeries. Exercises incorporate hand-held Toning Balls and a towel or small foam cushion to work on low load strength and endurance.
